Comments
Comments: Started in snowshoes, 2 people were heading up in spikes, the bottom of the trail had a fresh dusting of snow which got deeper. After the Mt Osceola trail junction the 2 in spikes turned back, one had no snowshoes and he saved himself of a difficult day. Starting breaking trail, up the steep section was tricky trying not to slide back. Along the ridge the snow was deep and even deeper snow drifts. Took the bypass to the bypass. Same conditions up to Osceola, in some places you could lightly make out the old snowshoes tracks but most had been covered. On the return we ran into a handful of hikers all but one in snowshoes and he really left some deep postholes. After East before the steep sections going down we changed into spikes which was the best traction for that part, the snowshoes were like skis. The bottom part of the trail was looking really good by the time we got back down. Snowshoes are definitely needed still after the first mile.
