Comments
Comments: Ascended Beaver Brook Trail with the intention of crossing over Moosilauke and descending Gorge Brook Trail. The ascent up Beaver Brook was well packed with signs of the skiers descending the brook. All hikers/skiers had turned around just before the Asquam Ridge Trail. Major snow drifts and higher than average snow fall made the Beaver Brook Trail difficult to follow. We made it to the Mt. Blue summit trail in around 3.5 hours. Snow depth was about thigh deep with snowshoes and the total snow base forced the "trail" to be bushwhacking through tree tops. All blazes were below the snow-line so were not visible and we were relying on maps, GPS, and our gut feeling that "it looks like the trees aren't so dense this way". Made for a fun, yet tiring, adventure. Turned around when it was decided that we couldn't make Moosilauke summit within the time-frame we had decided on. Decent back down the trail was a quick and easy 1 hr with lots of butt sledding.
