Comments: It was quite an adventure today breaking trail between Pierce and Jackson. Crawford path was in great condition up to Pierce. From Pierce to Eisenhower there are a few dead ends and minor spruce traps, but no big deal for experienced winter hikers. The snow was getting sticky around noon, but even off trail I was only sinking 6 inches, so I decided to head into the untouched drifts to make my way south. I’d broke trail on this section last winter, and some areas looked familiar, but I still needed to check trusty Gaia gps several times when I made dead ends. A compass helped too. Most of the time I was able to recognize the trail corridor from the telltale bent saplings arching over it, and the white AT blazes are quite frequent. When I got a quarter mile from Jackson summit, I met up with tracks from someone who had turned around, saving me some tough breaking up that part. It took me 3 hours for this 2 mile section, and I got the adventure I was looking for in the deep snow before the rain comes.
