Comments
Comments: Just a heads-up that it is now mud season in the Mt. Cardigan area -- it's 50 degrees and partly sunny right now near the lodge, and with yesterday's heavy rain and warm temps, expect many of the (normally) dirt roads in the area (like Shem Valley Road, to the AMC lodge) to be/become an absolute mess, with deep ruts/potholes. Any firming up with overnight cold temps will be undone quickly with the late-morning warm-ups and sunny weather.

You may or may not be able to navigate some of these roads with a regular passenger car. Stay frosty.

We've noted that creeks and small streams in the area are losing their snow and ice bridges, with plenty of open water now.

The snow pack in the area decreased by 3-4 inches in the past two days. Lower-elevation trails are getting mushy; snowshoes are a must.

Next week's weather is supposed to be in the high 40s and low 50s, so this trend will continue.
