 | Surface Conditions: |
Ice - Blue, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Postholes |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |

 | Water Crossing Notes: |
I didn't trust the very first stream crossing so I went upstream slightly. The crossing right after the shelter is open but there is a handy ledge just upstream. This crossing will be more difficult as things melt out more. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The only blazing I saw (one blue, one yellow) is right at the start of the woods road section of the trail. |

 | Comments: |
Today, snowshoes would have been of zero use. Spikes all the way up and down. Last night's freeze has created a hard sidewalk, although there is some softer ice in places. Lots of postholes of varying depth.
I went a little further than the base of the falls. One person had continued up to the pool at the main falls but in doing so they left behind deep postholes that wouldn't be fun to step in.
The falls are currently living up to their name though, with lots of beautiful ice. The brook is open much of the way and with warmer weather coming next week, this hike will be pretty sloppy as everything melts. |
