 | Comments: |
Snowpack survived the first major rain of the year. Still about 1.5 to 2 feet of snowpack remaining with a somewhat supportive crust (at least with snowshoes). Generally frozen granular, but there was a dusting to half an inch of powder on the upper mountain that resulted in slight drifting. The snowshoe trough is not nearly as pronounced post-rain, so another thaw could start to reveal monorail. There are some legacy postholes, as well as a few new ones installed by Microspikers today.
Snowmobile trail is still open/being groomed with good coverage (a few random rocks sticking up where the tracks have worn through).
I wore snowshoes roundtrip and found them to be ideal, particularly on the loose granular on the snowmobile trail. Microspikes would be adequate while temperatures remain at or below freezing.
Partly sunny afternoon with temperatures around freeze and gusty winds. |
