Trails were beat up by parasitic postholing during the warm temperatures a few days ago. What seems to be okay at the trailhead gets progressively worse as once ascends. Lots of divots and postholes to contend with (thank you for the one that I rolled my ankle in). I was able to get by with Microspikes roundtrip this morning, but it was awkward. I'm not sure that snowshoes would have been any better or worse. With warmer temperatures tomorrow, snowshoes will be needed, particularly at the logging landing and South Peak Trail. Full snowpack remains, even on the south-facing steep up South Peak that usually melts out quickly.
Beautiful March morning with blue skies and temperatures in the lower 20s. |
