Solo hike up Black. Was surprised to see so little snow on the mountain. Mostly patchy snow, 1-3 inches at lower elevations, nearly none at middle elevations, and 4-5 consistent near the top. Lots of rock and bare ground showing throughout. Thin monorail, ice, and bare ground on lower half of trail. Gnarly ice flows and then thick monorail on the upper half of trail. Some of the ice flows were very sketchy even with traction. Lots of boot traffic going around those, off trail. Passed five other human beings and two dogs during my hike. |
