What an amazing winter day on the Wildcats. Snow was falling from about 1pm to our finish at 5, but it was still decently warm out. Put on spikes immediately and they never came off, the shoes went for a ride. 19MB was an absolute breeze, so well packed and minimal postholes. Had to make an effort to slow down once I reached Wildcat A, knowing I couldn't head down the ski trails until at least 4. Met a large AMC group hiking the ridge, doing the same thing I was doing. Ran into two other hikers who were planning on hiking back to their cars at 19MB, but one was able to hitch a ride with me and the other with the AMC group. Reached the summit right at 4 and put on more layers. We waited for the ski lift to stop and headed towards Polecat. Such an easy descent, took less than an hour. Lots of fresh powder from the falling snow on the ski trails. Very happy about a later sunset, NOT happy about winter almost being over :( |
