Spikes door to door.
Below 4000 feet, the snow is extremely packed down - it feels like a sidewalk. Spikes are the tool to use for this section; it's too hard packed to wear snowshoes.
Above 4000 feet, things get a little choppier. Snowshoes could be worn for this section; however many were wearing spikes without postholing.
Very little ice - small patches here and there.
