The two of us started out barebooting, there was about 1-2 inches of fresh snow down low, it was clear there was others in front of us. We made it to the junction with A-Z where we opted to put on snowshoes for the televators. We were able to catch up with those in front of us, a group of about 5 or 6. From the junction to the top of field there was between 1-3 inches of fresh snow with some occasional spots of drifting that was about 8-10 inches in depth. From Field to Willey was hard to navigate in some sections due to drifting snow covering up the track but for the most part was more of the same, following a good trench with 1-3 inches of new snow. We ran into the group we had passes going up field with some others, about 10 in total, all in snowshoes. We also ran into 1 other hiker who was snowshoes just after Field. From Field to Tom had one set of snowshoe tracks from the hiker we had just run into. Just like the rest of the day it was following a decent trench with 1-3 inches of new snow and occasional small drifts. The spur to Tom was the same conditions, we ran into 1 other hiker also in snowshoes. From Tom back to the junction with Avalon had become quite soft so the snowshoes stayed on. Once below the junction the temps had risen quite a bit and the snow was balling up on our snowshoes so we opted to bareboot the last mile, trail was supportive for today and we had no problems. With about 14 sets of snowshoes out today the trail should be super smooth. |
