Started at Lincoln Woods in spikes…below Bondcliff the trail is in good shape (except a little annoying sidehilling) …Hillary Step is filled in and an easy hike up.. the summit of Bondcliff is mostly bare but I kept my spike on until the upper reach of Bond, where I switched to snowshoes.. the trail is a little wonky here but will get you there..the descent of Bond to W Bond was unbroken.. the spur itself may have a few tracks but again, it’ll get you there…beyond W Bond spur was unbroken so I was pleasantly surprised to meet up with 2 groups of 2 that had come from Zealand,allowing me to continue on with the traverse instead of backtracking… no trip reports mention in between the Bonds and Zealand and I was solo..Guyot is bare but I kept my snowshoes on.. so from the upper part of Bond on the south side all the way to Zealand had seen a total of 5… the snow is deep and unconsolidated, snowshoes encouraged, from Zealand to the Hut and to the trailhead (summer lot) is well packed and spikes were used here… Zealand Rd was aggressively plowed just north of the summer lot and well south of Hale Brook trailhead.. thick ice remains on the road with many patches right to 302….Zealand Rd CANNOT be skied in its current state |
