Very nicely firm trail all the way up, could have just gone with spikes the whole way but used snowshoes on the steeper parts for the heel lifts. Above treeline, plenty of bare rock, and the snow fields are well on their way to fully melting.
On the way down, the warmer temps of the day turned that firm into quite soft snow, which actually helped make the descent easier. Below 3,000 ft, plenty of instability, slipping off the hidden monorail many times. I'm sure the trees and animals were having a field day watching me slip everywhere, as if I was under the influence. 😏 Very few bareboot postholes, mostly just snowshoe ones, which thankfully aren't particularly deep. Warmer temps this weekend, and up to an inch and a half of rain on Sunday, will make this even more a mess. Spring is on our doorstep! |
