 | Comments: |
The entire trail is snow covered except for a short section of the Webster Cliff Trail to the summit of Mt Pierce which is bare rock or slush. Snowshoes can be worn. The surfaces remained solid so microspikes worked well too. With forecasted warmth the surfaces may weaken which would present problems if one has insufficient flotation. There were some boot holes on the margin of the Crawford Path. At the tree line, there is a bushwhack path that diverges right that may lead to the summit. On ascent, I took the left fork to remain on the Crawford Path. The Webster Cliff Trail heading off the summit toward Mizpah Hut snaked its way amongst the treetops. The snow has drifted deeply in the trees at the summit. This allows for a 360-degree view from the snowpack! This vantage point was not available back in January.
The Crawford Path has been broken out towards Mt Eisenhower. One hiker said that there are multiple broken out tracks on the way to Eisenhower. The Mizpah Cut-Off has been broken out.
Gray Jays were present at the Crawford Path - Mizpah Cut-Off junction.
Many hikers out today including one woman completing her first 4K peak. I met three groups of hikers with connections to Texas and two with PA. Two hikers originally from Mumbai India were on the trail. As expected, many hikers were from New England including two trail runners.
