Bare booted to the bridge on Falling Waters then donned my spikes. Falling Waters was in great shape even though I stayed at 10:35am. A little melting, but nothing significant. Spikes came off just under Little Haystack and didn't go back on until the last descent before Lafayette. They stayed on to the car from there, but they definitely took a beating in several spots. Mix of fairly packed mush and rocks above treeline then a good solid pack with 2-3" of slush on top to the lot. Snowshoes went for a ride, but any softer and they'd have gone on. Old Bridle had taken a bit of a beating, but is still in good shape for the moment. This weekend may change that. |
