Comments
Comments: We barefooted until the Fire Warden's trail on the way up, wore snowshoes from there to the summit and all the way back to the private drive. The Fire Warden's Trail was firm in the morning with below freezing temperatures, it got softer as temperature rose to 50. On the Fire Warden's Trail there is no trench, just chicken scratches on the surface and an occasional snowshoe post hole. If we stepped off the packed track the snowshoes would sink into the snow. Interestingly our snow shoe tracks disappeared as the snow got softer. The last 0.25 miles is a little hard to follow, the chicken scratches were covered by a dusting of snow. The snow is around 3 feet deep near the summit. We saw one other group of 3 who came up Hale Brook Trail. The view of the Presidentials near the summit was spectacular.
