Comments
Comments: Definitely a tale of varying conditions. Morning hiking was nice solid frozen granular snow as one would expect from 48ish hours below freezing. Perfect bluebird sky and very easy hiking with micro spikes up Gorge Brook. Summit was quiet, maybe 3-5 of us there during the hour I was there - no wind at all. I kept the micro spikes on to get to South Peak but it was borderline - snow was quite squishy by then. Changed into snowshoes at South Peak for the hike down to Snapper and then beyond. One could have used micro spikes if they didn't mind the occasional postholing, but I prefer snowshoes in those conditions. I'm guessing these conditions may be a moot point by 3/15 as it was 51 when I got back in my car and wasn't supposed to go below freezing again for a while. Glad I could get the day off today.
