Well I thought it would be smart to start early and it was. I started at 7:15 and passed a couple on their way out on the road. After that I saw 0 people until the ridge on the way down. I barebooted until I slipped too much at 2800’ and yes the spikes should have gone on before that. Very solid up until after the ridge. The ridge was in great condition. After this was a little sloppier with the sun hitting it all morning and as long as you stayed in the middle No falling off the trail up to your knee or hip. Some bending trees there but melting snow may fix those. Ate lunch at the ridge as the tower was breezy and 2 gray jays made their appearance. Saw a total of 16 other people-a few in shorts, most in spikes, 1 in snowshoes (this would Not have been overkill) and saw 3 carrying their snowshoes; saw a snowmobiler on the side they can hit the road, then saw 3 skiers heading down the road with a dog. The trail on the way down did not fair well on, did great on the switchbacks, some lower in the sun were falling apart everywhere, and then the road on the way out was a drunken sailor mess of a walk. This rain the next two days may make it for snowshoes after this until a deep freeze. |
