Comments
Comments: Shoulder season is here. I wore snowshoes roundtrip, but found them to be superfluous. Until/unless we get a few more inches of snow, light traction is the way to go for this route.

The first and last hundred feet (trailhead and final ascent) are bare/muddy (from collapsing ground frost). Otherwise, most of the route is ice with some stretches of spring snow and residual monorail. There is still snowpack off trail, but generally 6" deep with some bare spots and some pockets a foot deep.

I have to think the Squam Lakes Association mud season closure is imminent (doesn't apply to these logging-road trails).

Cloudy afternoon with some sprinkles and temperatures in the 40s.
