 | Comments: |
Snow was stable early in the morning and easily negotiated with light traction or crampons. Right side of tracks has full snow coverage, left side of tracks has no snow until just past Waumbek Station around 4250'. Snow coverage becomes minimal again about 0.25 miles below Westside Trail to the summit (ice, rocks, snow). Rock spikes work best.
Calm and warm morning for the last day of winter on the Rockpile. A handful of hikers out and about enjoying the easy conditions and about two dozen skiers heading up to get in turns as the snow started to soften up.
