Comments
Comments: The road walk to the State Park and trail head was semi covered in deteriorated ice and still pretty firm bare ground. Some of us chose to wear our spikes from the car to the trailhead just to be safe. The bottom of West Ridge trail was only minimally covered in snow and easily covered in short order. Spikes on for the second half of the trail where there is more firm snow coverage and considerable ice to final bridge crossing where the trail starts to converge on slab. Almost no ice or snow to the open slabs above. So spikes off and on the pack to the summit. An absolute pleasure to be barebooting the very dry slab to the fire tower. Little to no wind and views for miles on the summit today! Plenty of time for a leisurely lunch with only two parties there. Conditions were much the same on our descent but we started to break through the bits of deteriorating monorail. A great choice for the final day of winter.
