Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Recent rain has caused water levels to rise. Only the crossing on Carter Dome Trail at 2838 ft was a challenge, but there were a couple of trees that were of great help. My boots did get wet, but not from water crossings; rather, from all the running water on the trails and due to the collapsing monorails.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The section between Zeta Pass and Mt Hight needs some love, but many thanks to the crews that have done so much recent work.

Comments
Comments: I climbed Middle and South Carter last week, and this climb of Carter Dome was pretty different. Snow and ice on the trails is getting much softer, with the recent rains and higher temperatures. More effort this week: I wore micro-spikes up to the ridge (reaching Carter-Moriah) and then wore snowshoes across to Mt Hight and Carter Dome. I switched back to spikes at about 3835ft, just as the descent to Carter Notch gets steep. Right at the lookout. Really steep. This section, from the lookout to the Notch, was torture going down - not good in spikes, not good in snowshoes, just a slippery ride down a mess of melting snow and deep, deep postholes. Other than that section, the day was beautiful, saw only two other solo hikers, up on the ridge at the top, who had not brought snowshoes and who seemed to be working hard.
