 | Comments: |
Barebooted at lower elevation for a good roughly 2miles from the start of kinsman mt trail was muddy in sections with ability to walk a around , not long past first major water crossing.. started with ice & switched to hiking crampons/ spikes.. kept these on remainder of hike. look above for water crossing report. At kinsman ridge trail was majority soft snow pack, quickly melting as the day went on it noticeably softened, stepping off trail resulted in postholing. Snowshoes would not have likely changed this at all & took a ride.. winds were a nice touch in between the sun beating with temps in mid 30s-40s . Keep in mind the first Cairn you see for south is NOT the summit, regardless of what your phone map says.. keep following to the right & the “throne” cairn that you can quite literally sit in, is the marker for South Peak.
Trail conditions likely will be changing rapidly at this point in the season, so stay mindful that this report may have limited shelf life.
Be safe & enjoy your hiking adventures! |
