 | Water Crossing Notes: |
The 3 before the hut were not bad, the first one was the hardest and required going about 50ft off trail to use some rocks. Coming down from Bondcliff was the hardest as the snowbridge must have gone in the past rain storm. Required going about 20ft off trail uphill, crossing the river, and then I kicked in a trail along a very steep slope to get back to the trail. Take caution as falling here would be a 10+ ft slide into the rocks/river. The rest were all fine but did require some caution but we did not get wet. |

 | Comments: |
Great day out, water crossing weren't too bad, but if river levels are much higher would probably require getting wet. Used spikes on snow all the way from Zealand trail to Guyot thanks to the overnight freeze, from there used spiked on a mix of snow/rock. Took off the spikes after Bond and then put on snowshoes going down Bondcliff. Took off snowshoes around 2000ft and then put them back on for half of Lincoln woods. And then spikes to finish.
Some spots of trail were difficult to follow. West bond is probably the hardest trail following I have done in the whites however was able to follow the trail without a GPS. Another hiker we ran into lost the trail and ended up back Bondcliff trail higher up. There were also a few spots that were hard to follow before Guyot on Twinway.
Blowdowns between Zealand cliffs and Guyot made for slow going and I would highly recommend brining glasses to protect your eyes. |
