Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Wooden bridges make me really, really happy!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There are four monster (and I mean monster!) blowdowns. Three are stepovers and the fourth (about 0.4 miles below the summit) is so obstructing that I had to pull out Gaia to figure out where the trail was. And I have hiked this many times. If I could choose any tool it would be a chainsaw for the first three, and all sharp objects possible for that fourth one. It really is a doozy.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: My pupper had a great time!

Lost and Found
Lost and Found: We passed a bunch of people ascending, as we were descending. Someone clearly had a hole in the bottom of their pack because there were clothes dropped along the trail at intervals, and they weren’t there when we ascended.

Comments
Comments: We hiked out and back to South Moat for sunrise. I wore rock spikes on the ascent and for part of the descent. My partner bare booted the whole thing and said, “Hey, I was a hockey coach, this is no problem.” He had his spikes but did just fine without them. If only I had that grace, LOL. There is little snow except for the first 0.25 miles, and it was stable this morning. The worst of the ice is (you guessed it) that open sidehill slabby area that always has running water on it. I definitely got no style points descending through there but I broke no bones LOL.
South Moat is a great choice for sunrise because there are spots to see the view AND be out of the wind. Score!!
