Pretty much every single trail condition imaginable. Lots of ice heading up Welch, running water on trail, mud, little bit of snow. I went up early, so perhaps the sun will melt the sheets of glaze ice everywhere. Super slippery, spikes often couldn’t get a bite. Large ice floes that won’t be melting any time soon. I had to get a little creative to navigate everything. The big open ledges aren’t nearly as sketchy as the rest of the trail. In my opinion going up Dickey from Welch, was the worst. Descending Dickey after ledges was the most dry trail conditions. When we got back to the parking lot there were many hikers and cars, hopefully the ice softened up in the sun. There are a couple places where there’s drift snow, but no point in snowshoes. |
