Comments
Comments: I'll only report on Edmands Path because there will be other great reports for the rest of the trail. First 2 miles of Edmands Path are pretty good. Not enough snow to even out the trail, but too much to bareboot without slipping into little snowcups from previous snowshoers. Used spikes to just after the bigger stream crossing, which was not great because there were lots of random sections of bare rocks and wet slushy terrain. Put the snowshoes on to even out the surface, which was way better...until somewhere in the last mile. That was a tangled, slanted mess! Lots of broken trees, bent over trees, high levels of snow. Was barely able to follow the trail at times. Had to belly crawl under some brushwalls and do a walk about around others, which took me slightly off the trail time and again. Very difficult to stay on the slanted sections and step over fallen trees! It felt more like a bushwhack! I eventually took my snowshoes off and donned the spikes once again. (Crampons would have been much better at this point). The ground is solid enough somehow, where the trail actually goes, so they worked. Stepped off that trail once or twice and ended up postholing up to my hip! Other than that last 1 mile, the rest of the day was perfect! Challenging, but fun! Both summits offered beautiful views, warmth, and sturdy footing. Met 3 people coming down Edmands from the top, about 0.2 from the junction, just entering the tangled jungle. Hope they made it out! I wouldn't necessarily recommend doing this trail right now, but if you do, at least you'll be able to find your way a little bit better! Happy hiking!
