Comments
Comments: If I could check all the trail conditions off minus blue ice, I would. We had a mixture of everything on the trail. First 25 feet we used microspikes. THen was bare for the most part. Parts had loose snow. Parts were wet. Parts of the granite was slick and wet, but avoidable. Parts of the granite had some ice on it still, but was breakable and avoidable. Traverse to middle moat had snow still and spikes were recommended but we were carefully bare booting it. Bare top on both. No snow. Blue skies. Great views of Chororua and Washington. By the time we went back down the ice had turned to water and were drying. Still avoidable for the most part though we took our time crossing the wet part in case it was slick. Further down toward the bottom a lot of the mush from the snow had turned to mud, so we had mud on the way down. We truly had it all going down. I echo the "don't do this in slick conditions or in/after rain. The granite field was interesting enough and granite going up as well. Nobody slipped.
