 | Comments: |
Conditions were pretty fast today for spring, it was sunny but with a -25 windchill on the summits. I had my parka, face mask and goggles on up on the ridge, so I was surprised when a guy with a dog showed up behind me and we all made it to West Bond. A group had been out Thursday when it was soft, so the trail was a little bumpy and had a few postholes, but rock solid today for microspikes, I never thought about putting my snowshoes on, but would still bring them, especially after reading about the rescue on Friday of the guy who didn’t bring his. On West Bond I got off trail a bit, but even there the snow was rock solid today. It’s always a surprise this time of year. Lower elevations is a mix of everything, running water, ice, mud, bare trail. Higher up it is still deep winter snowpack, except the exposed ridge which was bare-bootable. |
