Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The amount of flagging on OBP is a little much, I understand they are for the trail builders but they probably should have removed that before winter. There is a section on Falling Tourist Trail that eleven blazes are visible in one section, because the vast majority of folks can't follow a well worn trail - the flagging isnt helpful

Comments
Comments: A FINE day to be above the trees. AARP start at 0900 with a half full + lot. Winds howling in the lot, set to ebb (hence the later start). Opted to go up OBP due to wind direction. Exceptional trail conditions surprisingly throughout. Rock solid trailbed down low to a rock solid rail to treeline. The basalt section of the agonies was surprisingly easier with ice on it than its normal slicker than snot conditions. We did not carry snowshoes (Which I felt very odd not doing) but they would have been sails in the wind. Above treeline was an amazing white sand graupel beach, about 6" of it. (Or dippin' dots like snow, if you're a millenial). It made summiting much easier. Ambient was upper single digits with a spirited breeze knocking temps down well before zero. We had full winter gear on - goggles and all - and it was type 2 fun on the descent with the wind in our face. Of note, one guy at treeline in a t shirt, with a pack so small his flannel shirt couldn't fit in it that he was holding. He came down with it whipping in the wind, probably because he couldn't button it because his fingers where frozen. The mountains spare most fools. Judging by our late start, the volume of cars in the lot, and seeing about ten people all day, I am guessing everyone went up Falling Tourist and got blasted by the winds and turned back. This hike completes my ever-calendar-day March list. 361/366. I can count em on one hand now!
