Comments
Comments: I had the trails to myself today, made fresh tracks most of the way in snowshoes up high. I bare booted to the first stream crossing where I immediately slipped, soaked my boot and cut my hand. Microspikes went on from here, until halfway up N. Twin the powder was deep enough for snowshoes, (they were just getting caught on branches on my back anyway.) I donned my poncho for the car wash, and a bag for my wet foot. It was cool enough there was no clumping, just perfect conditions, a blank canvas. I can see how people might get lost between S. Twin and Guyot (I strayed a few times but didn’t really need gps), and it was fun navigating by memory. I even took a chance and made a short bushwhack off Lend a hand to “Zeale” for my first time, which took 1 hour. All in all it was 22.4 miles and 5,500 feet of climbing if my math is right. It took me 10.5 hours. A great loop.
