A stunning day to visit the ‘Nock, which surprised me that we were one of only two cars in lot, and enjoyed a people-free summit for a bit! The first .7 miles of Dublin Trail is ice-free, then various stretches that you can skirt until you hit the first ledgy section. The ice is tricky, as it’s thick but has water running beneath it, so sometimes it lets go while you’re on it. Fortunately it’s intermittent enough, and we were able to bareboot to the summit and back, but we observed others in microspikes. We had our Hillsounds in case we couldn’t safely rock hop. A few areas of standing water in the usual .5 mile below the summit. Summit views were sensational—-we spied Washington, Kearsage, Moose, and the Franconian Ridge! Another few days of temps like today and Dublin should be ice-free! |
