Comments
Comments: I realize these conditions will probably change rapidly over the coming week but here's what it was like today. Was inspired to do this today from Youtuber Adam Hoyt's new video. Everything was covered in ice from the recent storm, I'd say up to half an inch on most trees. However surprisingly not a ton of downed branches yet...The trail surface was 1-2 inches of snow with a nice icy crust on the top that would break very satisfyingly when you stepped on it. I wore micro spikes the entire way. Went up the road (gate is closed), then up Winslow and down Barlow. Nothing too difficult on the way up, the trail surface stayed fairly consistent the whole way, maybe a bit more snow and ice towards the top. Didn't go up the fire tower because that had at least a couple of inches of ice covering it but no views anyway. Going down Barlow I slipped and fell twice probably more me not paying attention than really bad trail conditions. Seems like both trails have seen a few people this weekend breaking the crust I mentioned earlier but otherwise low traffic. Kept waiting for the wind to pick up and trees to start dropping branches on me but that never happened. I'm assuming the next few days will see a lot of melting and these conditions will change rapidly. I forgot how conveniently located this hike is while it's also a decent climb up.
