A beautiful day and I had the park almost to myself. I did at least 12 miles in 5 hours. It was cold but there was thawing through the afternoon and the mud got worse. Some icy snow and a hard to follow trail on the Greenway after Kittredge Hill, but Bear Pond trail was a wide snowmobile trail with lovely pond views. I took a right on 5 Summers snowmo trail, then after a mile took a bearing for a whack up Gove Mtn, but once I got up there I realized I actually needed the NW summit for the NH500, so I whacked over there, (it was not easy to see the high point) then back down, making a 2.5 mile triangle loop back to where I started. My first plan was to bushwhack the ridge back to the other end of the park, but oh well. (It was thick with hobblebush anyway.) I jogged the 3 flat miles of roads back in 41 minutes, only saw one other person walking. Saw one snake today, some ducks, and several bald eagles on the drive home. Got 5 peaks today for 230/500. |
