Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The bumpity bump parts of the access road are more bumpity bump than they were last fall, and there are some new washboard sections. Despite going wicked slow I bottomed out my Subie on the way out (first time that’s ever happened).

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Thank you to whomever went bananas with a saw (and in one spot, with an axe) and very recently clearly 10 gazillion blowdowns. Wowza. I can’t tell you anything you don’t already know, so I won’t try. Thanks again! Your hard work is very much appreciated!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: My pupper had a blast because there are an abundance of squirrels and bunnies on this route. All have been properly managed, thanks Echo! We saw two other dogs who have the kind of awesome manners that we are working to learn!

Comments
Comments: I had some significant concerns about the forecast so this was a safe choice. I was happy to run into two people that I know!! I am disappointed to report that I did, in fact, break my perfect record of 10 times on this hike without seeing a view from Starr King … today, number 11, there was a view. Sigh. LOL! The first 1.5 miles of the trail are mud, running water, and bits of ice, as you would expect. Upon entering the sidehill portion the snow depth increases dramatically. The center of the trail (monorail in places but mostly just a flat expanse of consolidated snow) is stable all the way to Waumbek. That little scramble below Starr King has some ice under the snow, so use caution there. Between Starr King and Waumbek there is an impressive 3+’ of snow. I was glad that I had my snowshoes, because you can never be too careful this time of year, but I used only rock spikes.
