Comments
Comments: Today was very interesting. Started around 9:45am to avoid the rain. Heading up to Lonesome Lake, I immediately put on snowshoes and they stayed on all day. I saw one other hiker in the parking lot and saw his snowshoe tracks as well! Once at the hut, I took Around Lonesome Lake Trail. A bit sketchy making sure the melting snow was stable, but it held me with some careful footing. There are spots where it is definitely melting and you can see the logs. Nicely packed trail up to KRT. KRT was fine until the extremely steep sections. They were very icy, and I wouldn't recommend anything other than snowshoes or crampons. Once on the Cannon summit, I decided to head down KRT towards the tram, I didn't feel comfortable heading back down towards Lonesome Lake (likely would have been ok, but personally not willing to take the extra risk with my pup.) KRT was straightforward, small sections of slick ice but overall a nicely packed trail. Pemi trail along Profile Lake was not broken out, so I got the pleasure of breaking trail there! Once on the bike path, an easy walk through the woods.
I'm glad I didn't take the risk going back down the way I came up. It added a few extra miles, but very easy miles and I had the time to do it.
