 | Comments: |
Perfect conditions today; bare boots below; snow/ice begins at 1.5 miles up. Spikes sufficient because snow/ice was solid -- easy to walk on top. Monorail starting in sections. However, today the temps were 30-32; warmer temps will probably soften the snow. A lot of postholes on steep section towards South Peak junction -- probably this past weekend when it was warmer. Now frozen, some knee-to-thigh deep. Carried snowshoes but didn't need them today. As it warms, they will be useful. Beautiful in open area towards summit -- lots of rime ice decorating cairns, signs, vegetation. No wind today -- a treat on Moose! |
