Snowshoes car to car. Started with about half a foot of fluff at the trailhead, 10-12" by around the mile mark. That's being conservative...the snow was almost higher than my gaiters. Saw two others, both in snowshoes. By afternoon the Bunnel Notch portion was consolidating/melting quickly, getting sticky but not nearly as deep as in the morning. Drifting on the ridge between cabin and summit..my track will get you there but does wander from the blazes here and there.
Down low, the monorail is narrow and invisible under the snow, so sliding off is inevitable. Up high, the upper elevation freezing rain storm from the weekend left the trail all ice... with the powder cover today it made for some exasperating moments and quite a few spills. But it sure was pretty. Yay spring! |
