Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Sandwich Mt. trail crossing is high water but rock hopping possible. Rocks were glazed with ice though. Drakes Brook crossing also high water after the usual rock hops. I used a thick ice bridge down stream, but that won't be reliable soon.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There is a large hemlock blowdown on Sandwich trail heading up to Noon peak, it's within the Sandwich wilderness, but easily walked around. I didn't note the coordinates, sorry.

Comments
Comments: Needed spikes up Sandwich trail. Glazed ice heading down to stream crossing, ice covered rocks. Ascending to Noon peak areas of black ice beneath powder. My spikes are probably worn but would not grip some of this ice. Needed full sole of foot to penetrate. As it is today, wouldn't recommend descending without solid crampons. Trail between Noon and Jennings is firm monorail, one to two feet deep. Icy going up Jennings too and spikes didn't always work on descent. Hopefully this begins to thaw. Drakes Brook was a whole different experience. Light powder covering icy crust with soft snow beneath. Highly recommend snowshoes for this trail. Potential for post holing up to your knee or more. Stream crossing was high water with ice covered rocks in spots. In dryer times you can rock hope 3/4 of the way, then boot through shallow water. The shallow part is higher than boots now. I used an ice bridge/dead fall to cross just down stream. There's probably other areas that are rock hoppable.
