 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked across from Cabin Trail and walked about 1/2 mile to the Bickford trailhead. |

 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Wet Trail, Ice - Blue |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
I crossed Whitin Brook four times on my route. Each time I was able to keep my feet dry by hopping on rocks.
I also took a short detour that took me across Paugus Brook twice. As expected Paugus Brook is flowing strong. Both times I put on sandals and waded across. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few small blowdowns on all trails. Typical for early spring. |

 | Comments: |
I took the long way around to Big Rock Cave and encountered variable conditions. I needed sandals (for water crossings) and spikes for ice. If I continued up Old Paugus Trail, I'm sure I could have used snowshoes. Spring in New Hampshire is wonderful.
All south facing slopes are basically snow free below 2000 feet. North facing slopes are holding on to more than a foot of consolidated snow in some places. For the most part, I was able to walk on top of the snow pack. No need for snowshoes today.
Going up the north side of Mt. Mexico on Big Rock Cave trail, it was very icy. I put on spikes for that. |
