Comments
Comments: I did this entire 20 mile hike in bare boots. Snowshoes and spikes stayed in the pack. Road was 90 percent snow-free. On trail there was 1-2 inches of recent snow that was mostly grippy, but loose and drifted in other places. For a base, it still looks just like it did mid-winter once you get up high. I tried snowshoes but they only clumped up. There was a tiny bit of hidden ice, mainly descending Lend-a-Hand, which hadn’t seen recent traffic. I did fine with poles, and was cruising the rest of the day. I only saw one person on Hale Brook, one who went to Zealand before me, (thanks for clearing the snow off the branches!), and I said hi to the hut caretaker. Very foggy today but a nice temperature for a long walk. I jogged on the way out, 7.5 hours round trip.
