 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There were approx 6 decent-sized trees across trail on the long incline between the Waternomee Falls Spur and the last push to the summit. Several of them were stepovers, I started a herd path on 1. None were massive, all were around 8" diameter trunks. Trail markings/blazes top third were super hard to find. I used a tracker and also paid super close attention to trail corridor - there was a tree down which made the trail disappear at one point (and no blazes at that point either). |

Well, when your paddling plans get canceled, time for my goto.... Mt Carr. I put the snowshoes on above the raspberry bush-filled clearing. I could have waited a bit because I was just picking up too much slushy snow on my snowshoes. Around halfway up, the snow was significantly deeper underneath and frozen solid; new snow of a few inches made the snowshoeing super-fast. Top half up and down was the best - I could have gone anywhere on that snowpack!!! Trail corridor pretty brushy top quarter mile - I got pretty wet pushing through. Beautiful day in woods - no evidence of anyone else this winter although I find it hard to believe noone's been up there. Other side looked vacant/track-free as well. Complete solitude... yippeeeeee oh, yes, the falls were beautiful with ice on the shelves. |
