Bare boots up Blueberry until about the intersection with Tom Wiggins going up. Sharp Hillsounds through the tricky section. No issues getting up the ledges; some spots are bare rock, and icy spots were soft enough for spikes to gain good purchase. About 4-5" of fresh sticky snow up high; put snowshoes on at the summit of Whiteface and took them off at the summit of Passaconoway. Lots of icy trail under the snow, took a couple spills across Rollins- so watch out for that. HUGE thanks to James who put down the single set of tracks across Rollins so I didn't have to routefind! Up to Pass was a lot worse for ice under the snow, so I opted for spikes coming down. Messy slushy jog down Dicey's, snow ends pretty much for good a little below the river crossing ~2000 ft. Spring conditions for sure, but really not too bad for April. |
