Comments
Comments: Ammo going up was fantastic. Solid snow base. Snowshoes from Cog Lot to Lake of the Clouds will get you up Ammo without any issues no issues with the water crossings up at tree line. I was really feeling good about the day. At Lake of the Clouds thats when the day and the trail went sideways. Lake of the Clouds has a lot of ice. There was soft snow on top of ice and it was very slick and slippery. I changed over the micro-spikes for the remainder of the day. Mt. Monroe (attempt) was extremely icy from Lakes to summit junction sign. Turned around half way up Monroe getting down from Monroe would have been a problem. It was to icy and not safe so I went up Washington instead. Micro-spikes weren't enough. I saw to other hikers one with Crampons and one with just spikes. Crawford Trail from Lakes to Washington Summit was soft snow and every other 10 steps snow would ball up on your spikes. It was a day for sure. Blue skies and seeing the sun worth the day but the ground conditions were really poor. Spring snow is starting to show its true colors. coming down the cog was my bailout. Spring Snow lots of build up under the spikes coming down until you reached Waumbek Station.
