Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Someone left a bunch of junk all over the winter route. Three lengths of cheap cord dangling from trees, a questionable rappel anchor made of hardware store components, and a random ice axe spike cover. To the litterbug: You're a mess. I cleaned up your trash. You're welcome.

Comments
Comments: The TRT was a little slippery. We went up in bare boots, but spikes wouldn't be a bad idea. The winter route was well consolidated snow and broken out in straight-up fashion, without any of the typical rest spots. It was hard snow, and icy. It was definitely necessary to take our time, both on the way up and on the down climb, for the sake of safety. Crampons and ice axe are absolutely needed -- though there are a few spots where neither will give you any traction, and roots are your friend for the awkward pullup over ice-glazed rock.

Above treeline, the trail had just a thin layer of snow, with a lot of exposed rocks on the Lion Head itself and the trail between there and Alpine Garden. It was an easy walk on top of the snow from Alpine Garden to the snowfield, and the snowfield itself was also pretty firm, with a well-established boot track. The trail past that to the summit was a combo of lightly snow-covered and exposed rock. The parking lot/road portion before the summit was super icy.
