Comments
Comments: First at trail head (8:30 am) with fresh snow. 1/2 inch snow over lower trail with some frozen mud. 1-2” snow over packed snow and ice by the boreal zone (evergreens). I put on microspikes here. 3-4 inches of snow over monorail as near Starr King summit and across ridge to Waumbek. Fresh snow and rime ice on trees made it tricky to see trail and blazes in some places on way to Waumbek (my first time on this trail), but return trip was easy. Encountered a few other hikers while descending. Some balling of snow on spikes as sun warmed things during descent.
