Proper spring conditions today. First half on AT is perfect. Dry and no snow. Second half it starts getting muddy and the last quarter was very icy (blue) and steep. Proper crampons were very much required today for safety especially on decent (I had microspikes and it was hard to trust it on the blue hard angled ice). Met a fellow hiker who mentioned an angry mama moose very close to the trail close to summit likely with a baby so decided to call it a day! Would suggest the use of crampons for the next week or so till more of the ice has melted off. |
