Hiked up the Tuckerman's Ravine trail and up the headwall to ski down with a backcountry ski setup. From the parking lot, it took about 0.8 miles or ~25 minute, until snow conditions were suitable to skin continuously. Relatively smooth skinning up to the Hermit Lake shelter. Skis went back on the backpack and the trail between Hermit Lake shelter and ravine base was off and on again snow hiking or rock hopping. At the Ravine, snow was prime spring skiing. Climbed up along a well established obvious boot pack next to the lip. Recommend waterproof or resistant gloves for the climb, and switching ski poles for an ice axe for this portion. Cover exposed skin or put on sunscreen, as sun intensity is strong off the snow. Skied down the chute which was in good condition, no ice.
Hiked back down to Hermit lake, then skied down the Sherbie. Sherbie was skiiable roughly to where skin conditions started, however to get there will require 3 or 4 stops and walks over dry parts while carrying your skis. |
