Comments
Comments: Overall the trail was in decent conditions for it being late Spring. We started up Jewell around 8:30 am and wore spikes all the way until the trail popped out of the trees towards the junction to Gulfside. Towards the top of the tree line, the elevated monorail is wicked narrow so just be careful and watch your steps so you don't step into a tree well! Above treeline there is still some ice but most of it is avoidable with rock hopping or keeping your spikes on for a bit longer. Once at Gulfisde junction, there was one snow field 1/2 mile along where we had to put our spikes back on to cross in the morning but was soft snow by the afternoon. Most snow fields spikes are not needed or with the sunny weather you can kick steps into the snow. Smooth sailing up to Jeffy! The Cog is a slog however. Big snow field for the top half that was half slushy half icy and spikes were necessary! Overall though, awesome conditions and easy going hiking! Happy trails!
