Comments
Comments: Absolutely spectacular day to be on the ridge - 57 degrees and no wind on the summits. There is a mix of dry trail and minor amounts of snow in the beginning of the Falling Waters Trail. Even as the snowpack increased, it was firm enough to just bare boot. I finally put on the spikes as I reached the steeper section next to the falls about 1.25 miles in. The track from there to the ridge was firm and fast. The spikes came off once reaching the Franconia Ridge Trail. Other than some small stretches of snow and the occasional mud/puddled water, the trek over was dry. Bare boots down to the hut from Lafayette and for a distance beyond. Old Bridle Path was more of an adventure in the warm afternoon. There were areas where you needed spikes and then stretches of bare rock. The slushy monorail was made even more challenging by the group ahead of me that had no traction and created grooved tracks by sliding down the steep sections. I stayed on my feet all day so no complaints.
